Mahe island

Ultimate guide (March 2024)
Mahe is the biggest island in the Seychelles. There are many nice beaches. Also there are mountains on the island with interesting hiking trails. Beach and seabed: sand, stones. [edit]
This island ranks #4 of the "Best islands in Seychelles"

Hotels [edit]

Prices in hotels are quite high, as everywhere in the Seychelles. Fortunately some budget options are available (from 50 euros per night and sometimes even lower).

Please note that accommodation in a tent on the island is prohibited. Therefore, we strongly recommend against this idea. If you still want to live in a tent, keep in mind that almost all of the island is very densely built up, so it is often difficult to find a suitable deserted place even in the mountains.

How to get there [edit]

Fly to Seychelles International Airport (SEZ). Continue by taxi.

There are also cheap shuttle buses on the island with lots of routes. Keep in mind that often you need to change bus in the capital city of Victoria to get from one point to another.

When to go [edit]

It is good to travel to Seychelles any time of the year. The nature is more beautiful in the rainy season from October to April, but the dry season will give you more sunny days.

Please note, that due to the wind the weather can be different in different parts of the island. Sometimes it happens, that it's rainy at some beach, while it's a great weather on the opposite side of the island. So the best is to rent a car to be more mobile when moving around the island.

Useful information [edit]

If you want to save on food, it is recommended to buy the products at the supermarket in the capital city of Victoria. Supermarket is rather poor, but anyway you will find something.

Also shops selling take away fast food are very popular on the island among locals and tourists.

Please note, that Seychelles is the only place in Africa / Indian Ocean / South-East Asia, where there are no tropical diseases. Absolutely no. So if you are traveling with children or with old men, or if you are sick, the Seychelles is much more preferable than Maldives, Thailand or any other countries in this region.
